    He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

    He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is an American animated television series produced by Filmation based on Mattel’s successful toy line Masters of the Universe. The show, often referred to as simply He-Man, was one of the most popular animated children’s shows of the 1980s, and has retained a heavy cult following to this day.

    It made its television debut in 1983 and ran until 1985, consisting of two seasons of 65 episodes each. Reruns continued to air in syndication until 1988, at which point USA Network bought the rights to the series. USA aired He-Man until September 1990. Reruns of the show are no longer being broadcast on the Qubo Night Owl in the U.S. Currently the show is viewed on Retro Television Network, on Me-TV, and in Canada on Teletoon Retro.

However, Warner Home Video has released one episode on DVD, “Tarzan and the Colossus of Zome,” on Saturday Morning Cartoons: 1970s Volume 1; Warner Bros.’ rights to the series may originate from their ownership of international TV distribution rights in the 1970s and 1980s.

    Gilligan’s Planet

    Gilligan’s Planet is a Saturday morning cartoon produced by the Filmation animation studio and MGM/UA Television which aired during the 1982-1983 season on CBS. It was the second animated spin-off of the popular sitcom Gilligan’s Island, the first being The New Adventures of Gilligan.

    Gilligan’s Planet was the last cartoon series that Filmation produced for Saturday mornings; afterwards, they produced cartoons exclusively for syndication. It was also the first Filmation series to feature the Lou Scheimer “signature” credit.

    Gilligan’s Planet was also the final 1980s Saturday morning cartoon to retain Charley Douglass’s adult laugh track. Thereafter, Filmation dismissed Douglass’ chuckles for its animated lineup as it transitioned to more heroically-themed cartoons that were more dramatic for a laugh track.

    In 2012, Animation World Network named Gilligan’s Planet the 57th greatest animated television series of all-time.

    Space Sentinels is a Saturday morning animated series produced by Filmation which debuted on the American NBC network on September 10, 1977 and ran for thirteen half-hour episodes. The series has been called “ahead of its time” due to its racially diverse cast of main characters.

    In this series, the Roman mythological figures Hercules and Mercury are joined by Astrea, a character created specifically for the series, to form a superhero team to protect mankind.

    The complete series was released on Region 1 DVD on August 22, 2006, along with the complete series of The Freedom Force.

    Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids is an animated series created, produced, and hosted by comedian Bill Cosby, who also lent his voice to a number of characters, including Fat Albert himself. Filmation was the production company for the series. The show premiered in 1972 and ran until 1985. The show, based on Cosby’s remembrances of his childhood gang, centered on Albert, and his friends.

    The show always had an educational lesson emphasized by Cosby’s live-action segments, and in early episodes the gang would usually gather in their North Philadelphia junkyard to play a rock song on their cobbled-together instruments at the end of the show.

The show revolved around the exploits of space adventurer Jason and his colleagues, including Professor E.J. Parsafoot and the pocket robot “Wiki”. It was run on ABC-TV from September 14, 1968 through January 4, 1969. The series was produced by Filmation Associates in association with 20th Century Fox. It was later shown in reruns on Sci Fi Channel’s Cartoon Quest.

    The complete series was released as a 3-disc DVD set in the United Kingdom by Revelation Films on November 21, 2011. However, in the United States, there are currently no plans to release the series on DVD and/or Blu-ray Disc from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

    The New Adventures of Batman

    The New Adventures of Batman is an animated series produced by Filmation in 1977 featuring the DC Comics superheroes Batman and Robin, and Batgirl. The current distributor is Warner Bros. Television due to parent company Warner Bros’s ownership of DC Comics, which publishes the Batman titles. It is a continuation of the 1960s Batman TV series which had been canceled eight years earlier.

    The New Adventures of Batman originally premiered February 10, 1977 on CBS. The episodes from this series were later aired along with other Filmation shows—such as Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle —as part of: The Batman/Tarzan Adventure Hour, Tarzan and the Super 7, and Batman and the Super 7.

    In The New Adventures of Batman, the “Dynamic Duo” fights crime in Gotham City, encountering the classic Batman rogues gallery as well as some original villains. Complicating matters is Bat-Mite, a well-meaning imp from another dimension called Ergo, who considers himself Batman’s biggest fan. As a result, he wears a variant of Batman’s costume and attempts to help him, only to often create more problems. Missing is Alfred, the faithful butler of Batman’s alter ego Bruce Wayne; also notable in this series are the inverted colors of the “R” on Robin’s costume.
