The Criminal Code (1931)

Graham responds well and earns the respect of both the warden and his beautiful daughter. Graham’s mettle is put to the test when he stumbles onto a prison murder committed by his cell-mate. He must choose between the criminal code of silence and the warden’s strong persuasion to reveal the killer.

Man to Man (1930)
Eighteen years ago, John Bolton found the man who killed his brother Joe and shot it out. The man was killed and John went to prison. His son Mike is now a college track star and when the fraternity finds out about his father, he leaves college and goes back home to Hardinsville. About the only job he can get is at the Bank. At the bank, Emily takes a liking to Mike and that upsets Vint, who has his eye on Emily. Then John gets paroled by the Governor and returns to town. Mike is ashamed of his father and keeps away from him while Jim will not let him quit his bank job. All the old folks think that John did the right thing. When Mike is short $2000 at the bank, he believes that his father took the money when he was out of his cage, but cannot bring himself confront him.

Only the Brave (1930)
Cooper is a Union Army officer who after being jilted by girlfriend, Virginia Bruce, volunteers on what could be a suicide mission. He volunteers to go behind enemy lines disguised in Confederate gray as a staff officer to Robert E. Lee. He’s to ride to a certain plantation which is a local brigade headquarters and deliberately let himself by caught with maps showing false Union troop dispositions. Of course the penalty then as now is execution.

Fay Wray plays a beautiful showgirl who falls for a rich Park Avenue guy played by Phillips Holmes. William Powell is a producer in love with Miss Wray, but he won’t use his influences to take any advantages…. as usual, he’s a perfect gentleman.
Pointed Heels was supposed to have been a vehicle for “boop-boop-a-doop” girl Helen Kane, but by the time the film was released, Kane’s role was reduced to a supporting part.
