Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog
$4.00Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is a 2008 musical tragicomedy miniseries in three acts, produced exclusively for Internet distribution. Filmed and set in Los Angeles, the show tells the story of Dr. Horrible, an aspiring supervillain; Captain Hammer, his nemesis; and Penny, their shared love interest.
The movie was written by writer/director Joss Whedon, his brothers Zack Whedon and Jed Whedon, and writer/actress Maurissa Tancharoen. The team wrote the musical during the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike. The idea was to create something small and inexpensive, yet professionally done, in a way that would circumvent the issues that were being protested during the strike. Reception has been overwhelmingly positive. On October 31, 2008, Time magazine named it #15 in Time’s Top 50 Inventions of 2008. It also won the People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Online Sensation”, and the 2009 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form. In the inaugural 2009 Streamy Awards for web television, Dr. Horrible won seven awards: Audience Choice Award for Best Web Series, Best Directing for a Comedy Web Series, Best Writing for a Comedy Web Series, Best Male Actor in a Comedy Web Series, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Music. It also won a 2009 Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class – Short-format Live-Action Entertainment Programs.

The Legend of Neil
$16.00 – $24.00The Legend of Neil is a comedy web series distributed by Comedy Central’s partner Atom.com and is a parody of the Nintendo game The Legend of Zelda. Sandeep Parikh of The Guild fame directs the series. Tony Janning writes for the series, and acts as the title character Neil. Felicia Day and Mike Rose, who have worked with Parikh on the set of The Guild, appear as recurring characters.
The series follows Neil, who is sucked into the world of The Legend of Zelda while playing the game. As he travels Hyrule he is mistaken for the hero of the game, Link. The series is “full of self degrading, foul humor”, such as when Neil is being sucked into the game he is masturbating and strangled himself with his NES controller.
The series began as a four-minute YouTube video posted in 2007. The video went viral, receiving several million views. Its popularity led to Atom.com financing a web series based around the video.
The first season was released in 2008. According to Fox Business before the premiere of the second season, “With nearly one million plays, the hit Web series by creator Sandeep Parikh built one of the Web’s most enthusiastic fan bases in 2008.” In the run-up to the August 2009 premiere of the second season, MTV2 planned to air the complete first season. The series was also nominated for multiple Streamys at the 1st Streamy Awards in 2009.

The Guild
$16.00The Guild is an American comedy web series created and written by Felicia Day, who also stars as Cyd Sherman. It premiered on YouTube on July 27, 2007. Seasons two through five webisodes premiered on Microsoft’s Xbox Live Marketplace, Zune Marketplace, and MSN Video. The webisodes were later made available on the official Guild website, YouTube, and iTunes. According to Day, Microsoft’s business model changed after season five; Day wanted to keep ownership, so the episode premieres moved to Day’s YouTube channel Geek & Sundry. The webisodes are also available via DVD and streaming on Hulu and Netflix.
The show revolves around the lives of a gamers’ online guild, The Knights of Good, who play countless hours of a fantasy MMORPG video game entitled The Game. The story focuses on Codex, the guild’s Priestess, who attempts to lead a normal life after one of her guild-mates, Warlock Zaboo, shows up on her doorstep.
Joss Whedon credits The Guild as one of the inspirations for Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, which also starred Felicia Day.
The sixth season premiered on Geek & Sundry on October 2, 2012.
In a phone interview after the end of the sixth season, Felicia Day confirmed that The Guild webseries is complete.
