    Platypus Man

    Platypus Man is an American sitcom that aired on UPN in 1995. Starring comedian Richard Jeni, the television series was based on an hour-long HBO special of Jeni’s filmed in 1992. The series lasted for only one season, with a total of thirteen episodes.

    Platypus Man premiered January 23, 1995. The concept of a “Platypus Man”, the concept of a “cooking show for guys” and the scenes involving the main character’s social life were drawn from Jeni’s stand-up routines.

    The show, paired with Pig Sty, followed Star Trek: Voyager on UPN’s Monday schedule. Both Pig Sty and Platypus Man were canceled in July 1995.

    The series follows teenage Hercules training as a hero as well as trying to adjust to life. With his free-spirited friend Icarus, his future-seeing friend Cassandra and his teacher Philoctetes, he battles his evil uncle Hades. Like all teenagers though, Hercules has to worry about peer pressure when the snobbish prince Adonis ridicules him. The series notably contradicts several events in the original film and is not considered canon.

    The Legend of Tarzan is an American animated television series created by The Walt Disney Company in 2001, based on the Tarzan character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs. It was initially meant as first original series though ultimately shunted to UPN’s “Disney’s One Too” lineup. The Legend of Tarzan picks up where the 1999 feature film left off, with the title character adjusting to his new role as leader of the apes following Kerchak’s death, and Jane adjusting to life in the jungle.

    Rounding out the cast are Jane’s father, Professor Archimedes Q. Porter; Tantor, the germophobic elephant; and Terk, a wisecracking female gorilla and Tarzan’s old wrestling buddy.

The series was based in Baltimore for the first four seasons before changing settings to Los Angeles for the final season.

    The series featured guest appearances from numerous celebrities and athletes including Lil Zane, Chris Brown, Brave from RichGirl, Lil’ Romeo, Eve, Lloyd, Floetry, Angie Stone, Mario, Omarion, Brandy, Solange Knowles, Marques Houston, Smokey Robinson, Avant, New Edition, Jennifer Freeman, Method Man, Bobby V, and Lisa Leslie, among others. The show was cancelled when The WB and UPN merged to form The CW.
